From idea to reality

The construction of the Sokolie Skaly via ferrata was a demanding but fascinating process that brought together experts from various fields – climbers, builders, nature conservationists and outdoor sports enthusiasts. The aim of the project was to create safe and attractive climbing routes in a unique natural environment near Pustý hrad.

From idea to implementation

The idea to build secured routes (via ferratas) arose spontaneously among cottagers and mountain enthusiasts. The key figure was the well-known climber Martin Gablík, who supported this project from its inception and became its “godfather”.

However, the preparation of the implementation itself was a long and demanding process. The Regional Tourism Organization of Central Slovakia (OOCR Central Slovakia) played a significant role in the processing of the project documentation and the construction itself. The project would not have been possible without the support of the Forestry Enterprise of Zvolen (LPM Zvolen) and the City of Zvolen, which provided its financing and administrative support.

The construction itself was in charge of Pavol Rajčan, who took care of the final implementation of this technically demanding structure.

Technical aspects of the construction

Each route was carefully planned with an emphasis on safety and respect for the natural environment. The rock formations had to be subjected to geological survey to ensure their stability. This was followed by:
✅ Installation of steel ropes and a belay system, which ensure the safe movement of climbers.
✅ Installation of ladders and artificial steps, so that the routes are accessible even to less experienced visitors.
✅ Construction of bridges and viewpoints, which offer a unique view of the surrounding landscape.

The importance of this location is also evidenced by its mention in the mountaineering guide Slovak Rocks, which describes important climbing areas in Slovakia.

The Future of the Via Ferrata Area

We wish the Sokolie Skaly Via Ferrata Area many satisfied tourists and climbers who will come here to enjoy nature, challenges and adrenaline. We believe that this project will become a popular destination not only for domestic but also foreign visitors and will contribute to the development of tourism in the region.

We look forward to your experiences on the via ferrata! ⛰️🧗‍♂️
